Rab Swannock Fulton Originally from Scotland Rab Swannock Fulton settled in Ireland ten years ago. He specialises in researching and performing folktales, myths and urban legends from Ireland and Scotland, including tales handed down through his family. Rab performs and teaches storytelling and creative writing in schools, libraries, museums and festivals, locally and internationally. He is a member of Poetry Ireland’s ‘Writers In Schools Scheme’ and the UK National Literary Trust’s ‘Reading Is Fundamental’. He can be seen performing through the year in Bridgemill’s Restaurant and The Cottage bar, Galway.For over twenty years he has used his art to build bridges between people and challenge the exclusion of marginalized groups. This work includes living for 15 month on Faslane Peace Camp, Scotland. His work has featured in television, radio and cinema documentaries. As well as a storyteller Rab is an accomplished writer, essayist and poet. He has worked as a columnist, book reviewer, magazine editor and independent publisher. A former runner up to the Robert Louis Stevenson Award in Scotland, in 2005 he won Ireland’s Athenry Prize for his essay 'Rome’s Gift of Freedom to the East – Propaganda Versus Reality'. The Arts Council of Ireland, Galway City Arts Office, the Arts office and the English Department of National University of Ireland, Galway have all generously supported his work. Clare Muireann Murphy Clare Muireann Murphy is a storyteller, performer and wordsmith based in Galway City. She has told tales in America, Singapore, around Ireland and Europe. Her repertoire is vast and varied and has told tales for all ages from 3 months to 94 years old. Her stories draw from Irish mythology, folklore and world folklore, as well as wonder tales, creation stories and fables. She has a rich selection of participation tales for little children. Clare toured the UK with Storytelling Café in February 2008 and again in September 2008. She is a recommended teller on the Crick Crack Club website www.crickcrackclub.com and performed at the Globe theatre November 2008 as part of their Tales for Winter series. She has performed at festivals around the country including Kilkenny Arts Festival, Earwig Arts Festival and Mohill Storytelling Festival. Clare founded Story Night in 2006; a monthly story share held in Galway City. Clare is available for workshops and has worked with a wide variety of groups including teachers, youth at risk, travellers, refugees, theatre students, university students, home schooling groups, elderly, teenagers and so on. Clare has lectured at NUIG as part of the Children’s Studies Programme on Storytelling, she was awarded the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Level 1 award in 2007 for her social storytelling projects, and was a nominee for the Arts Foundation Fellowship in Storytelling for 2009. She has a background in writing and theatre. Her writing won the Muscailt Literary Short Story Award two years running. Her acting history includes roles in Slow Dance on the Killing Ground by Shadow Theatre Company and Waiting for Godot by Tir na nOg Theatre Company. |
